Does La Mer Live Up to the Hype?

Before you even open the little pot of Creme de la Mer moisturizer, your expectations are pretty high. This legendary product is known as one of the most coveted moisturizers in the world.

Creme de la Mer and the Miracle Broth

The moisturizer has a pretty incredible backstory, starting with Max Huber suffering severe burns in a lab explosion in the 1950s. He was apparently on the hunt for something to help heal the wounds. He spent 12 years conducting more than 6,000 experiments to arrive at what is now known as the Miracle Broth, the key element of La Mer products.

Kelp yeah, baby!

Harvested right off the coast of Vancouver, the power of the giant sea kelp and other nutrients and minerals are unlocked through a natural fermentation process. According to La Mer, the moisturizer is “surging with vital energies, supporting the five facets of natural healing: moisture, regeneration, soothing, smoothing and radiance - which helps to bring skin back to its healthiest state”.

After all the hype, I just had to try it. And you know, it’s amazing.

I like to apply La Mer after a shower while I’m all nice and dewy.

It goes on very nicely. It smells nice (not even a hint of rotting ocean) and has a great texture when you apply.

It really does keep you moisturized for a long time, and after a few weeks you really start to see this bright healthy look to your skin, as promised by La Mer.

Clearly La Mer knows that they have something good. The price point on the moisturizer definitely makes it a luxury product, but the results make it worth it. The value is there, so it might just be worth the splurge.

Have you tried it? I’d love to hear your thoughts on the product too!
